Early Digital

I unequivocally felt my life was to be of photography. I had a wonderful, spacious darkroom at 1952 20th Avenue. Great sound and comfort in all ways; LaDonna with daughter Alison upstairs. To raise our children we moved. I needed to earn. Caitlyn was born.

I paused photos between moving to this home and the digital explosion. 3D graphics -ZBrush, Truspace, and Photoshop held my attention - great fun. If I could paint I might never have picked up a camera.

My conversion from monochrome to color wasn't easy, my eyes still have muscle memory for shades of gray. Couldn't get comfortable with color. For me, color indeed was too much about color.

A wonder of digital is no longer being limited by Kodak and Fuji films, Agfa, Ilford or Oriental paper. I've created my own digital film / paper. I process to de-emphasis color while imparting a strong warmth plus a vignette. Not a stretch from b&w.

The second bridge was crossing from a reflective medium, prints, to an emissive medium, my monitor - an astoundingly different experience. The depth of details in the shadows is now unparalleled. I enjoy the dark.

My camera was an Olympus C-8080
